Sepp Blatter says he saw a rigged draw for a European competition
Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has made a startling accusation about cheating in soccer.
Blatter told Argentine newspaper La Nacion that he once witnessed a draw for a European tournament rigged to benefit an Italian team.
“It was for a European competition. Only one team has managed that. It was an Italian side,” Blatter said, as translated by The Mirror. “You can see the balls that are drawn identified either by making them hot, or if they have been cooled. I was a witness.”
Blatter, who said he was not responsible for the manipulation, explained that the balls used to draw the matchups would be put in a freezer to make them easy to identify.
Blatter, 80, worked for FIFA from 1975 until he was banned from world soccer for eight years in December as a result of the FIFA corruption scandal.
